Solitaire by Alice Oseman

If you’ve heard the name Alice Oseman, then you probably know that she wrote the Heartstopper series. But did you know that she wrote other novels? Such novels include I Was Born for This, Radio Silence, Loveless, and the book I will be focusing on: Solitaire. She also wrote the novellas Nick and Charlie and This Winter, which follows the events of Solitaire.

I had received all of these books for Christmas and decided to read one of them. I chose Solitaire and I wasn’t disappointed. Solitaire has a great plot involving Tori the protagonist, Michael Holden who becomes Tori's friend, and Solitaire. Solitaire is a blog that started in her school and no one knows who it is that’s posting on it. It isn’t a normal blog either, each post comes with some form of chaos like music playing on the speakers or ratting someone out for doing something really bad. Tori believes that the blog is somehow connected to her as some posts seem really close to things she liked or events that happened.

Out of curiosity I wanted to see if I could actually visit the solitaire blog myself. So I typed in the url: solitaire.co.uk and pressed enter. I was surprised to see it take me to an actual page. I however wasn't expecting it to be a page of solitaire games. It would have been very cool to see the actual blog and view the posts.

Overall I loved this book a lot! I couldn't put it down from reading because the story was so good. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun and interesting read.

  1. A little while before reading this review, I read Adrian's review of Heartstopper, and the author seemed good. Reading your review has proved that even further; I might have to check out something by Alice Oseman. I liked hearing about your attempt to visit the blog mentioned in the book, it's always cool when books have a website or something that exists in the real world. Too bad solitare.co.uk wasn't a reference to the book. Good review!
